  • Subjects: nature and village
  • Difficulty: medium
  • We suggest: comfortable shoes, sporting clothes
  • No need transportation from Orvieto

From Orvieto,  goes down along Via Adige towards the town of Sferracavallo through taking a long descent. Past the roundabout then continue straight until you pass the bridge over the ditch called Albergo La Nona, then turn left and follow the signs to Rocca Ripesena (namely Via Piave). The path in total is just over 4 km.

Take the level road that comes from the town and a few kilometers later begins to climb towards the small village of Rocca Ripesena. This town that has few inhabitants is like a “small Orvieto” as it has the same origins and the same geological features with a massive presence of tuffaceous volcanic rocks. As soon as the road begins to climb keep to the right in the direction Rocca Ripesena. The road rises with small and narrow bends final until you reach the nearly 370 meters of the village. The closer you get to the village and the more you can see the great mass of tuff rock that characterizes the town. Unlike Orvieto, where the houses are not resting on the block of tuff but just below. Arriving at the center of the town you can also walk beneath the cliffs to discover its top in a lush natural environment and with a beautiful view of the area.

In addition, in the town, in a green space, there are various species of roses from all over the world and for this reason the village has also been renamed the “The town of the roses”.
