A mountain bike that covers a stretch of the 2011 Giro d’Italia. It is a very attractive route from a naturalistic point of view and includes stretches of asphalt and dirt road.
From Orvieto you go down Strata delle Conce and then the long descent that leads to Sferracavallo. Stay right towards Allerona with a few km of flat asphalt. Pass Bardano and take a right at the next junction, going under the train tracks passing in front of the remains of the Ponte Giulio (of Roman origin). Continue straight coming to town the Prese, here the stretch is always easy and flat. At the next junction turn right towards Pianlungo and from there left to Allerona.
Go through Allerona and then turn right onto the road for Palombara. Here the path begins to climb and the street are alternated between asphalt and dirt. As you climb the landscape turns green and gaze opens more and more beautiful with scenic area that serves as a picturesque backdrop.
Continue going up until you encounter farms and houses and the road gets tougher. From Orvieto it was already after about 23 km when you reach the junction that leaves the small area to take the path of the Crete. It continues for a few km (ca. 5) until the next junction, which is almost parallel to the A1 motorway, from there take the marsh area and then to the Contrada della Piaggia, follow signs for Fabro Scalo at the town center rotary.
