Tour Overview
A guided tour of approximately 2 hours to discover the places of Christianity in Orvieto, an important papal city and custodian of the relic of the Eucharistic Miracle of Bolsena (event which have generated the celebration of Corpus Christi). This Walking tour takes place in the historic center of Orvieto among suggestive medieval streets to see some of the most important churches in the city. Among them San Francesco (the second church dedicated to the umbrian saint after the basilica of Assisi), Sant’Andrea, a church which hides Byzantine and Etruscan-Roman finds in its underground and San Giovenale the oldest city church, passing near the Madonna della Cava, one of the most small Marian sanctuaries in the world.
The tour continues towards Piazza Duomo for a visit to the cathedral, its façade with the bas-reliefs that tell stories from the Bible and the mosaics representing life scenes of Mary (to whom the cathedral itself is dedicated). In the chapel del Corporale the reliquary is kept with the sacred linen stained by the blood of Christ on the event of Bolsena Miracle.
