There are two ideas behind this district’s name. One is the assonance with the nearby via del Corso; and the other is the presence, in this area, of a military outpost of Corsican mercenaries soldiers.
This north-west district follows a path between “antiquity and modernity“, including the archaeological area of the Etruscan temple of Belvedere, the Saint Patrick’s Well, and a modern buildings such as the large former military barracks of Piave and Montegrappa. The latter was built by demoloshing part of the adjacent Church of S.Domenico. Also near Piazza XXIX Marzo is the Labirinto di Adriano, an underground site with modern sculptures and ancient caves. The historic Piazza del Popolo hosts elegant buildings such as the majestic Palazzo del Popolo, a medieval palace which is now a modern conference center. Another element of modernity is the multimedia museum Orvieto VIE.
