"The hidden necropolis of Orvieto"

On the opposite side of the Necropolis of the Crocifisso del Tufo, the archaeological area of the Sanctuary and Etruscan Necropolis of Cannicella is located inside the archaeological natural park that surrounds the city, in an area of dense vegetation and plants.
The archaeological area includes Etruscan tombs among the oldest (some have a dating dating back to the seventh century BC) and also has remains of an Etruscan shrine at the time certainly very important, frequented and characterized by walls, tanks and channels where collect the liquid of religious sacrifices.
Today the area is not immediately and easily accessible and can be visited on request with local guides.
The most significant finding in this area is the small statue called “Venere di Cannicella”, (actually exhibited at the Faina Museum). It is an interesting find as it comes directly from Greece (Isle of Paro).
